We administered 2,572 English proficiency tests

Proficiency levels classified based on the responses received
26% of the participants (675) did not complete the test and received an A1 score.

What does each level mean?

Basic | A1 and A2

Can report on simple tasks that are in progress or have been completed, understands common phrases related to their field of work, and comprehends simple, direct requests.

Intermediate | B1 and B2

Able to discuss and understand complex and technical subjects, communicate spontaneously and fluently, and take part in negotiations.

Advanced | C1 and C2

Able to present results and projects, produce technical documents, take part in complex negotiations, lecture on their field, understand cultural nuances and lead native teams.

Fun Facts About the Proficiency Census

Genre X Level

Cisgender men make up the majority of people with a high level of English proficiency.

Age × Level

People aged 26 to 35 perform better in terms of their proficiency in a foreign language.

Education Level

People who are currently enrolled in or have completed higher education are among those who are most proficient in the foreign language.

Sector X Level

The beginner level is most prevalent in sectors such as telecommunications, hospitality, and manufacturing. The intermediate level, on the other hand, is most common in sectors such as aviation and education, indicating a higher level of skill in these areas.

Department X Level

The data by department supports the sector-specific analysis: the more English is used as a work tool, the higher the employees’ proficiency in the language.

Cargo X Level

The position with the highest level of English proficiency was Director, with 60% at advanced levels.

Using three questions, the tool provides a detailed assessment of the test-taker’s performance based on their pronunciation, intonation, fluency, vocabulary, and grammar.
It should be noted that 675 A1-level test-takers did not speak enough for the test to assess their proficiency in the skills mentioned above.
Pronunciation

It assesses clarity and precision in articulating sounds in English to ensure comprehension.

It can be seen that most people demonstrate an intermediate level of pronunciation. This group accounts for 49% of the total results.

ENTONATION

It checks the tone and rhythm of speech, which are essential for conveying emotion and meaning.

Most participants are at the intermediate level of intonation, accounting for 52% of the total. On the other hand, only 11% of the participants achieved the advanced level on the test.

Fluency

It assesses the ability to communicate fluently and spontaneously in different contexts.

Most participants achieved an intermediate level of fluency on the test, accounting for 47% of the total results. The beginner level also accounted for a significant 34% of the total results.

Vocabulary

Check that the employee expresses themselves with variety and richness of words.

None of the participants were classified at the beginner level in vocabulary; the vast majority, 94%, reached the intermediate level. However, the percentage of students who reached the advanced level was low, accounting for only 6% of the total.

Grammar

It examines the set of rules that organizes the structure and use of English.

Most people reached the intermediate level in grammar, accounting for 61% of the total. By comparison, 14% of the participants reached the advanced level.
